Taishan: The 4th Chinese Research Station to Come up in Antarctica

China takes another stride in the area of science and technology by establishing its 4th research station – ‘Taishan’ – in Antarctica after Kunlun, Zhongshan and Great Wall. Meant to be a summer-only station, It will contribute in research on bio-ecology and remote satellite sensing. Moreover, China is also looking for a site for another (5th) research station.

The 7th Annual BCCI Awards 2012-13 Announced

Veteran cricketer Kapil Dev has been bestowed on the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award by the BCCI at its 7th annual awards. The award contains a Trophy, citation and cheque for Rs 25 lakhs. The Polly Umrigar Award (Trophy and cheque for Rs 5 lakhs) for being India’s best international cricketer of the BCCI Awards year 2012-13 has been bagged by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Mauritania General Election 2013 Results

The final result of the recently held national legislative elections in the west African country of Mauritania witnessed the ruling party, Union for the Republic (UPR), making a thumping comeback by winning 74 of the total 147 seats. A further 34 seats were captured by UPR allies adding handsomely to the coalition’s already impressive tally in an election which was boycotted by several opposition parties.
